Stabilization for soldiers
The Stabilization for Soldiers program began in April 2001.
It allows soldiers to extend their tour of duty at their current duty
station for an additional year so a family member can graduate from their
current school. So far, over
2,000 military families with high school seniors have taken advantage of this
program.
Soldiers who
have children in high school must request stabilization from PERSCOM before
their children begin their high school junior year.
The request is made on a DA Form 4187 (Personnel
Action). A soldier must list known scheduled temporary duty for a training
course and other purposes.
Officers need to contact their branch assignment officers if
they are scheduled for training at the end of their current tours. That will
tell the branch that the training requirement may have to be deferred.
A letter from the
high school stating when the student is expected to graduate from the school
must be attached to the DA Form 4187.
eCybermission
eCybermission (eCM) is a unique, Army-sponsored, free Web-based science,
math and technology competition for sixth-, seventh-, eighth- and ninth-grade
students. eCybermission targets students of all capability levels. The
competition encourages and rewards a diverse range of proficiency levels,
interests and backgrounds.
Army personnel serve as eCM ambassadors to promote the
competition throughout the nation and to demonstrate the Army’s commitment to
America’s youth and their pursuit of science, math and technology. Army
scientists serve as cyber guides to assist students with their projects through
scheduled chat room sessions and e-mail.
eCM is open to all students attending a U.S. or DoD Education
Activity school in grades 6 through 9. Teams must include three to four students
from the same grade level. Team members may be from private, public or home
schools. Each team must also select an adult team advisor.
The program is not school-bound and teams may sign up through
civic organizations or on their own from home or through local library
computers.
www.ecybermission.com. For
more information or to set up a briefing on eCM, call the FORSCOM program
coordinator at 404-464-6410.
